Hearing loss is a partial or complete inability to hear.  The loss of hearing may occur at birth or can develop gradually over time due to one or more factors in a person’s life such as noise exposure, wax in the ear canals, stress, grinding of teeth, high blood pressure, natural blood flow to the ear, and trauma to the head or ears.  Age-related hearing loss usually affects both ears and can result in loneliness.

The first step in trying to figure out what is causing any type of hearing loss is with full diagnostic hearing testing.

DIAGNOSTIC HEARING TESTING

HEARING TESTING

A diagnostic hearing test consists of checking the entire hearing system.  This includes the three parts of the ear all the way up to the brain stem and up to and including the auditory cortex, the area where hearing is processed in the brain.

It is a painless examination that includes what we all remember from grade school as hearing those “beeps or tones,” as well as checking a patient’s speech clarity/ understanding of simple words.

Lastly, It also includes a check-up of the ear canal and eardrum health.

HEARING AIDS

HEARING AID SERVICES

If the examination reveals the need for amplification (Hearing Aids), during their consultation the patient is offered the best options and solutions to improve their life with better hearing. At Acoustic Hearing Center we work with only the latest and most sophisticated hearing aid technology which gives the greatest and most satisfactory outcomes for the patient on their hearing journey.

CONSULTATIONS

CONSULTATIONS

The Consultation process at Acoustic Hearing Center is part of the overall experience the patient has while visiting us at the center. We strongly suggest that all patients (especially new patients) to the center, be accompanied by a significant other since there are often many questions that the patient and significant other may have.  Dr. Freed and staff practice in a very professional, educational but relaxed manner, offering the best solutions for each patient.

Dr. Freed and staff also invite patients who have been tested elsewhere to the office for a free consultation, providing they bring a copy of a most recent Hearing examination that has been performed within the last 12 months.

As part of being educators in the field, there is absolutely no charge for the consultation.

TINNITUS

TINNITUS CARE

Tinnitus is a common complaint defined as a head noise, and most frequently described by patients as coming from their right and /or left ear.  It can often be described as a bilateral head noise as well.

Tinnitus can manifest itself as a tone, hush, whoosh, or steam pipe.  Some may describe it as a distortion-type sound.

Tinnitus can be intermittent or constant, and may even change its quality of sound.

Tinnitus is quite common and can be attributed to many different reasons such as hearing loss and noise exposure, wax in the ear canals, stress, grinding of teeth, high blood pressure, natural blood flow to the ear, trauma to the head or ears amongst many other reasons.

The first step in trying to figure out why Tinnitus may occur by having a full diagnostic hearing test.

The good news is that with today’s sophisticated technology many hearing aids offer a special tinnitus listening program to help alleviate the sensation when it does occur.
